After spending 15 years in the foster care system in Portland, Oregon, Lux opts to become an emancipated minor. However, as she navigates the legal system, she finds her biological parents, local radio personality Cate Cassidy and Nate ``Baze`` Bazile, a couple who had a one-night stand in high school. Though Cate and Baze haven’t seen each other in 15 years, it doesn’t take them long to start again where they left off, quickly falling into the same same contentious relationship they had as teenagers. But when the judge rules that Lux isn’t ready to be an emancipated minor and grants joint custody to Baze and Cate, they agree to try to make things work in order to give Lux the life she deserves.
